Spac Princess Wars
Performed by CAS on April 26–April 28, 2024 at the Historic Sidney Theatre
When Archer finds herself a captive audience for her dad’s latest screenplay “masterpiece,” it seems pretty familiar at first. It’s clear her dad has found inspiration in a few beloved fantasy adventures. This wonderfully comedic twist of “Star Wars” and “The Princess Bride” has an incredibly absurd array of heroes, villains, robots, and romances. It’s total chaos! But once Archer gets pulled in to the mashup tale of a princess with a secret agenda and some space wizards destined for greatness, she starts to wonder: Could this be so much chaos it’s actually… genius?
The Princess Who Had No Name
Performed by CAS on May 5–May 7, 2023 at the Historic Sidney Theatre
Weave together the feel of a classic fairy tale, the delight of a fractured fairy tale and the fun of a mystery in need of solving, and you can’t go wrong with this hilarious, expertly-woven romp!
A girl wakes up alone in the forest with no memory of where she’s from or how she got there. She can’t even remember her own name! All alone, she embarks on a journey to recall her past, and along the way, she meets several fairytale characters — Hansel and Gretel, Rumpelstiltskin, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Cinderella and Rapunzel to name a few. Some are helpful and some dangerous, yet all have information that intertwines and helps our fair maiden recall her own story, eventually revealing her true identity as a princess.
Of course, her prince is desperately looking for her all the while, but he seems to be one step behind and inadvertently rescuing and winning the hearts of the wrong princesses! With plenty of fun new takes on the stories everyone loves, the Princess’s quest to remember her true identity will keep everyone guessing to the happily ever after ending.
Law & Order: Nursery Rhyme Unit
Performed by CAS on April 29–May 1, 2022 at the Historic Sidney Theatre
Is there a bigger group of psychotics and sociopaths than nursery rhyme characters? Read some nursery rhymes — you know it’s true! That makes heinous crimes, such as the tragic case of Humpty Dumpty, quite difficult to solve. Detective Green and the Punnish Sir (Yes, he’s always scrambling for egg puns!) have been called in to investigate a crime scene where a Mister Humpty Dumpty has been found shattered and fowl play is suspected. They have one hour to solve the crime — the same time frame as a typical Law and Order episode, minus commercials. Can they do it? The yolk’s on you if you think this hilarious tongue-in-cheek play is for young children. There are so many puns and plot twists in this comic romp, even the playwrights were surprised by the ending!
